LAREDO, TEXAS (KGNS) - As part of the Memorial Day weekend, people from the community came out last weekend to give thanks.

The Diocese of Laredo held their 2nd annual Memorial Day Mass at the Catholic Calvary Cemetery. Bishop James Tamayo held the service and took time to recognize all veterans on this special weekend.

Goyo Lopez helped put this event together and shares how the idea to have mass for veterans came together.

"Unfortunately with all the distractions, people forget what Memorial Day is all about," said Lopez. "So the Diocese and Calvary Cemetery decided to start a mass. It's our second year doing this, to take the time and remember those who served our country."

After the mass, a special tribute was held by local law enforcement and the Honor Guard. A local Boy Scout troop also participated in the laying of the wreath.
