LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - Families come out to honor their loved ones who have donated life-saving gifts.

The San Antonio Eye Bank stood with Doctors Hospital for the 11th annual "Garden of Hope" ceremony. The event serves to remind families to never forget the precious donations that people give, such as organ, cornea, and tissue transplants.

"We host this ceremony specifically during April as a beacon of hope to those who are waiting, and for those nationally who are affected by donation to join in the celebration of honoring their loved ones," said San Antonio Eye Bank Manager of Hospital Relations Samara Nichols.

Nichols says that people are always in need of these types of gifts.

"It's so critical for individuals to think about the decision to donate life," Nichols said. "Right now, there are over 120,000 individuals, men, women, and children, hoping for that life-saving transplant."
