LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - Parents are volunteering at school to help with their child's education.

Fasken Elementary School held an event Wednesday for all of their parent volunteers. The event was a combination of a luncheon, as well as a workshop. The school holds this event every April for all parents that come in periodically throughout the school year, whenever teachers need any additional help.

"They come in, they help the teachers, make copies, they help the teachers on field trips, they form a very important part here at our educational....the partnership that we have between the parents and the teachers." said school counselor Maria Teresa Guajardo-Diaz.

Guajardo-Diaz says the bond between a parent and their child is very important.

"It's real important for parents to be involved with their children throughout elementary, middle, and high school," said Guajardo-Diaz. "It gives the kids really positive self-esteem to see their parents here."

For anybody interested in volunteering, go by Fasken Elementary and fill out an application. This will then be sent to the school's district level for approval.
