LAREDO, TEXAS (KGNS) - Friday is the last day of early voting, and so far the turnout has been very slow.

Early voting numbers are worse than expected. As of Thursday, only 5,571 people have cast their vote early.

The Webb County Elections Office projected 15 to 16,000 people would vote in the runoffs. That number has dwindled to 12,000.

The Elections Office reminds the public if you didn't get around to voting in the primaries, you still can this time around.

"If you registered before the deadline whether you voted in the primary or not, you can still vote in this election," said Webb County Elections Administrator Oscar Villarreal. "The only difference would be those that did vote in the primary will not get asked if they want to vote Democrat or Republican because we'll know if you voted for one party during the primary. You have to stick to that party during the runoff."

The Elections Office hopes to have 9,000 votes cased by the end of the week. Voters still have until Friday to vote. Booths will be open for 12 hours.

Election Day is May 27.
