Grant provides LCC police with bulletproof vests

The grant application has been approved.

New vests will be purchased for 20 police officers.

LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - The police at Laredo Community College always do a great job, but now they're BULLETPROOF!

A grant from the United States Department of Justice has been awarded to Laredo Community College to provide its campus police officers with new ballistic-proof vests while on duty.

The college was awarded $5,046 through the Bulletproof Vest Partnership, which will help cover half of the cost of purchasing 20 new National Institute of Justice compliant armored vests for its certified peace officers. LCC will cover the remaining cost.

In October 2013, the United States Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Assistance approved LCC’s grant application, which was submitted by LCC’s Office of the Vice President for Resource Development.

New vests will be purchased for all of LCC’s 20 police officers, 10 of whom are located at the Fort McIntosh Campus and 10 at the South Campus.
