LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - It's one of the greatest musicals of all time, and now it's coming back to Laredo!
Greasers and Pink Ladies from Rydell High's senior class of 1959 will rock n’ roll on stage as the Laredo Community College Opera Workshop presents the Hollywood and Broadway hit musical, Grease, beginning Thursday, March 27.
Performances will be held Thursday through Saturday, March 29 at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, March 30 at 3:30 p.m. at the Guadalupe and Lilia Martinez Fine Arts Center theater at the Fort McIntosh campus.
General admission is $10 at the door. Proceeds benefit student scholarships and future productions.
Set in the 1950s, Grease follows the love story of greaser Danny Zuko and good girl Sandy Dumbrowski, whose summer romance is suddenly put to the test when they discover they will be attending the same high school together.
LCC vocal instructor and musical director Dr. Joseph Crabtree said the stage production is slightly different from the movie version.
In addition to fan-favorites like Summer Lovin’, Worse Things I Could Do, and Hand Jive, the musical will feature new songs, such as Freddy My Love, Mooning, and It’s Raining on Prom Night.
The musical, which is considered to be the highest-grossing musical in the United States, has won a number of awards, including an Academy Award for best original song.
