Vera told KGNS News he was questioned by police Tuesday night, at a bar where his truck was searched and another man was arrested.
LAREDO, TEXAS (KGNS) - Some new information on the drug related arrest of a man, that also involved Laredo City Councilman Jorge Vera and his truck.
Councilman Vera's attorney, Eduardo Castillo, released a statement this morning, it reads:
"My office is in the process of gathering information regarding Councilman Vera. Once the facts become available, I am confident the councilman will be cleared of any negative impression this situation may have caused."
Castillo goes on to say that Vera will continue his work on the Laredo City Council." Councilman Vera was at A.J's Bar, Tuesday night, when police received a call about someone selling drugs out of a truck, in the bar's parking lot.
The truck turned out to be Vera's, but it was 24-year-old Jose Degollado that was arrested.
He's accused of tampering with evidence.
Vera told KGNS Wednesday, that police asked him a few questions and released him.
While Laredo Police did offer information on the arrest of Degollado, on Wednesday, they have declined to answer any questions concerning Councilman Vera.
Jose Degoalldo was a clerk for the District Attorney's Office.
District Attorney, Isidro Alaniz says he accepted Degollado's resignation Thursday morning.
Alaniz also says he's waiting to meet with police, concerning the case, "like any other case it's going to be brought to the D.A.'s Office where we will review the evidence and we'll proceed accordingly based on what they bring us."
We wanted to know what Councilman Vera's fellow Council members had to say about the incident.
We heard back from all but two of them.
They, along with city manager Carlos Villarreal, had no comment.
District Attorney Alaniz tells KGNS the meeting between his office and police will determine what the case is against Degollado, and whether or not there is a case against Councilman Vera.
