LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - Two candidates are invited.....but only one shows up.
After holding a number of debates for the March Primary Elections, Laredo's Kiwanis Club held their last debate, between the candidates running for Judge of County Court at Law #2.
Both Jesus "Chuy" Garza and opponent Linda Garza-Martinez were invited, however, incumbent Chuy Garza was a no-show. Instead, Kiwanis members asked questions and got answers from Garza-Martinez.
"If I were to get the position, there are a lot of things that I would change and do with the court," said. Garza-Martinez. "I'd start with making sure that everyone has their day in court and in open court. I will be the type of judge that will take the initiative to initiate meaningful programs to benefit members of our society, such as juveniles that need help, because they're addicted to drugs, alcohol, or have mental health."
Judge Chuy Garza told the group that he had a prior commitment in court. The Kiwanis Club holds these debates to help their members become more informed voters.
