LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - The Webb County fire department has received a state grant. Fire Chief Rick Rangel said they have plans to buy new trucks and vehicles for the department.

This $1.5-million grant will be given to them over a period of two years. Half of that money is available now. Chief Rangel said this is the first time the department has received this grant. He said this new grant would help their volunteers respond to fire calls more efficiently.

“Well this will help us because we'll have new equipment, more water availability. It will help moral within the members of the department, it's always nice to have something new. We are looking forward to it.”

One of the trucks they want to purchase is an additional water tanker. The Webb County fire department firefighters are all volunteers. They respond to calls outside of the Laredo city lines.
