LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - A local church comes together with other organizations to encourage kids to read.
The Laredo First United Methodist Church is hosting their very first Reading Camp. The camp is for elementary students to develop reading skills, long-term friendships with kids from other schools, and to have a safe and fun place to be when school is not in session during Spring Break.
"We formed a partnership for kids to have fun during Spring Break and to improve their reading skills," said Laredo First Methodist Church Pastor Paul Harris. "So what you are seeing is the play time outside activities mixed in music and reading, and we feed them breakfast and lunch, and this is our first attempt, so we look forward to being a part of the community and doing this for years to come."
Helping out in the camp were volunteer teachers from TAMIU and students from J.B. Alexander High School.
