LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - The Laredo Police Department partners is going green!

They held a tree planting ceremony in Blas Castaneda Park Thursday morning. Kohl's is sponsoring the LPD Blue Santa Charter Program, which helps needy children in our community.

"Today, we're partnering up with Kohl's, which is one of our major sponsorships, for the Blue Santa Program," said LPD officer Armando Garcia. "We're going green, and they wanted to team up with Blue Santa to make that dream come true, and that's exactly what we're doing."

Planting trees stresses environmental stewardship for children now, and in the future.

"It's important for us to do this for the community to show the Laredo Police Department, along with the Blue Santa Charter Program, we care about our kids, we care about our future, and we just want to make sure that this coming Christmas, each and every child that does come and apply to our department with the Blue Santa Charter Program has a gift and will have a special Christmas this year," said Garcia.

Kohl’s donated $1,500 to the toy fund for Blue Santa.
