LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - Several members of the community are now part of the men and women in blue.

The City of Laredo Police Department had their pinning ceremony. Nine new officers were selected out of the over 400 applicants. This is all in efforts to replace retired officers and the continuous task to protect the community.

"I'm looking forward to protecting the community and giving the best of my ability to work for this department," said new patrol officer Joe Garza. "It's a great department. I'm looking forward to being the best officer i can be."

To be part of the Police Force, they had complete six months of training. The Police Department said they have seen a 90% overall crime reduction over the last two years.
