In the last few years of the program, 14 former Laredo Police Explorers are now working as law enforcement officers at the local, state and federal level.
LAREDO, TEXAS (LPD) - Calling all teenagers who are interested in law enforcement. The Laredo Police Department is looking for their next group for their explorer program. This program has been in place since the 1980's. They are looking for twenty teenagers who would like to learn more about law enforcement. The program is year round, and shows the explorers firsthand the requirements, benefits and sacrifices that come with the career. To apply:
-must be between 15-20 years
-cannot have any criminal history
-must be enrolled in school
-have at least a 3.0 GPA’
-good physical condition
"It's an opportunity to develop their leadership skills. If they want to just learn what the police department does and they want to have their future in criminal justice, this is a perfect opportunity for them to see what police officers do, detectives do, how we investigate an accident."
Officers will be at the city hall annex building this Sunday. To apply, pick up an application from ten until two. In the last few years, 14 former explorers are now law enforcement officers on the local, state and federal level.
