STAAR testing has begun for elementary and middle school students.

LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - It's never an easy week in school when it's statewide testing. Fourth and Seventh graders are busy this week taking the writing part of the STAAR test. Fifth and Eighth graders will be tested on their reading and math.

Bobby Ramirez is the Executive Director of Curriculum at LISD. She recommends parents make sure their child gets at least eight hours of sleep the night before. Also, make sure they have a good healthy breakfast so they can concentrate on their exams.

“It is a stressful time of year for them and it's a time to demonstrate their learning. It's very important for the schools because that is where, one, we get evaluated on, based on the results of the test from the federal government and from the state. And also it helps us to guide instruction and make sure we are meeting the needs of all of our students."

Also, the school district recommends to not schedule any appointments for your child during testing week. They said it's important for everyone to attend a full day of school.
