LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - The Laredo Independent School District spreads the word that "reading is fundamental."

LISD selected two educators for Librarians of the Year at an awards ceremony held in celebration of National Library Week.

"Reading allows us to grow and expand our knowledge," said Laredo of Tomorrow Coalition Chairman Gerry Schwebel. "Especially in the area of healthcare, which is a fundamental part of the success of any community. If we can bring these two components together, I think the quality of life in our community will be enhanced."

"We're asking them to read books in the area of healthcare and better lifestyle, the better quality of life," said Schwebel. "So what better way to kick it off with National Library Week?"

Schwebel goes on to say that the "Read for Life" project is available for children of all ages.
