LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - Linda R Ramirez is officially the commissioner for precinct one. She's happy to now be a part of the Webb County family. Ramirez has a busy couple of days ahead of her to get adjusted to the new position.
"First and foremost, I want to safeguard the interest of precinct one but also all of Webb County. It's been difficult the last two months, with someone not occupying this seat. The county has a lot of business that it needs to get back to but not just precinct one, but all of Webb County and I plan on working for everyone."
Ramirez not only lives in the precinct, but works there as well. She's been a teacher for 16 years at United South High School and prides herself with community service work. Her three sisters all think she is the perfect pick to represent precinct one.
"I am so very proud of my little sister. She's always been involved in the community. She lives and works in that area. She lived there her entire life and I think she'll do a wonderful job for the citizens of that area. I'm so very proud of her."
She's spent the morning shaking hands with people in her precinct. County employees and fellow members of commissioners court were all there in support.
"She has a lot of ideas, a lot of good ideas. So I look forward to working with her and to be able to make a difference in precinct one."
Ramirez will keep the current precinct one staff. She said she has been working with them all weekend and looks forward to making a difference in her precinct. Her first commissioners court meeting will be on Monday, May 12th.
