LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - Every child involved in sports dreams of being the best and leaving a legacy. One Laredoan is doing just that, and he hasn't even graduated yet.

Alex Cruz, United High School track athlete, puts his name and time on the track and field board located in the school’s workout room. Cruz recently set the school’s new record of running one mile in 4:25.

Dr. Daniel Bell, former alum, had held the school’s record for over 34 years, running one mile in 4:28 in 1980. Dr. Bell was on hand to see Cruz post the new record on the board. He congratulated Cruz on his accomplishment and reminded Cruz and his fellow athletes that through hard work and dedication anyone can accomplish their goals.
