"We are pushing very hard to make this a reality in the very near future."
Making life easier for drivers is what it's all about. The opening of the overpass on McPherson is proof of that and is just the beginning according to state representative, Richard Raymond.
"This is a very important project of a bigger picture. What were trying to do is establish Loop 20 which is now re-designated as part of U.S.59, that allows us to connect it to interstate 69."
The overpass at McPherson is designed to make traffic run smoother without having to wait at the light. Before the opening of overpass, traffic jams were the norm. Pauliano Gonzalez is a truck driver and remembers how bad it use to be.
"Here at this light there use to be a lot of lines and loss a lot of time to get where you're going."
The overpass has even helped people who travel through Laredo regularly. Michael Starr and his family travel from San Antonio to Zapata and says getting to where they need to go has become a whole lot easier.
"We come down here miss all the downtown traffic. It's good smooth traffic flow, so we love it.”
In the future every intersection of Loop 20 will have an overpass like this one and will not only make travel easier, but boost the local economy."
"As of a few months ago Laredo became the third busiest port in America, so that means more job creation, more opportunities and were benefiting here in Laredo."
