LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - A Laredo advocate for foster care makes a visit to a local club.
Linda Mendiola, of Lutheran Social Services Texas, spoke at the Kiwanis Club about the community's need for foster care. Mendiola says the number of foster children in the area has continued to grow.
"If we can focus on finding families that can provide safe environments for the children while they're in foster care, that's very important." said Mendiola.
The most common reasons children end up in foster care is because of emotional abuse, physical abuse, sexual abuse, and neglect. There is also awareness for victims that are a certain age.
"Right now our focus is to look for families who are willing to accept teenagers," said Mendiola. "Because it's a very strong belief that all children in general, no matter their age, they need that love and attention."
The Lutheran Social Services' focus is to provide help, healing, and hope to the foster children in Laredo and our surrounding areas.
