HOUSTON, TEXAS (KPRC) -- Houston Crime Stoppers wants to get the word out about a man investigators are calling an "elderly abuse fugitive."

Investigators said Omar Jesus Cruz attacked his grandmother who is disabled and legally blind.

The grandmother said her grandson, who is homeless, stopped by her home to use the phone several times on March 11. She said when he showed up the third time, she asked him to leave and tried to close the door.

The woman said Cruz pushed her back causing her to fly back in the air and land flat on her back. She said he then took the leg of a dining room table and hit her with it.

"He was getting worse and worse and I was afraid he'd hurt me worse," said the victim, Martina Lopez. "I want him to get treatment and I want him to go somewhere where they will help him with his problems."

Cruz has been charged with injury to elderly. Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for information that leads to his capture. Call 713-222-TIPS.
