(WEBB COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY’S OFFICE) -- A jury found Joaquin Alberto Davila guilty of assault causing bodily injury stemming from an incident involving his common law wife.
On September 27, 2012, right after 12 pm., a Laredo police officer was dispatched to the 2000 block of Market Street after an assault report was made. When the officer arrived, he was met by victim Micaela Lara who said she was slapped and punched by her significant other on the 200 block of Ocean Street. At that point, another officer was dispatched to the residence on Ocean Street and proceeded to arrest Davila. He was charged with the offense of assault causing bodily injury, family violence, a class A misdemeanor in the state of Texas.
Opening statements began after 9 am before the County Court at Law II Judge Jesus Garza. The victim, her mother and the lead investigator assigned to this case, testified about the incident today. Closing arguments began this afternoon around 4:30 pm.
After an hour of deliberation, the jury found Joaquin Alberto Davila guilty. He was sentenced to two years probation and must pay a $4,000 fine after the jury deliberated again for two hours.
Assistant District Attorney’s Ricardo Guerra, Francisco Mendoza and Francisco Rodriguez were prosecuting the case for the State.
