LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - People gathered at church as part of Good Friday, but one father made his way there for a different purpose. His mission began with a tragedy, but ends with an act of thankfulness on Easter weekend.
With a homemade cross on his back, Mike Santasieri set out on a nine mile journey through Laredo. With a prayer on his lips and a rosary in his hand, his journey was not without purpose.
The Santasieris' daughter lost a short battle with anencephaly, a fatal disease. Nevertheless, they remain grateful for the time they had.
Although his walk ended at the San Agustine Cathedral, Santasieri says it's a journey without end.
Although Santasieri made the walk alone, his wife and two young girls followed him close by in the car, making sure he had water along the way.
