Mexican mafia federal court case

LAREDO, TEXAS (KGNS) - A big federal court case involves the Mexican mafia. Two more Laredoans have entered guilty pleas, joining 21 others who have pled guilty to charges connected to massive drug trafficking and money laundering schemes.

Carlos Contreras and his wife Rosa were named on the indictment alleging distribution of heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamine.

Government records show they have pled guilty to conspiracy. Both are facing a lengthy sentence and Carlos at a possible $10 million fine.

The government is seeking forfeiture of a home in the Lake Side subdivision valued at more than $300,000.

Local and federal law enforcement from Laredo, Austin, and San Marcos all assisted in the investigation.
