LAREDO, TEXAS (KGNS) -- As much as it might be inconvenient now, Nixon high school students turned the construction on their campus into something positive.

Today, students taking an architect class got to learn what goes on behind the scenes of construction project.

It was a day full of learning for this small group of Nixon High School architect students.

They got to take a field trip on their own campus.

There, they saw how everyone has to work together to get the job done.

Gilbert Jaramillo was one of those students on tour.

He got to finally see a construction site in action, something he's been learning about all school year.

Nixon has been under major renovation for the past eight months.

The district wanted to give their students a first hand look of what architecture is all about.

For freshman like Jaramillo, they'll still be here when the school is complete.

He's looking forward to it, especially the gym.

Some of the buildings are already complete.

Nixon will move into those next month.

They are planning the demolition of the annex in the fall.

The whole campus is expected to be complete in the Summer of 2015.

The total cost of the project is $35 million.
