CBP public affairs officer Rick Pauza and Border Patrol spokesperson Sara Melendez speak to members of the media after canceling a press conference at the time it was set to start.

LAREDO, TEXAS (KGNS) - After news broke this week of more people crossing the Texas border illegally, Border Patrol has been answering questions about their ongoing border strategy.

Today a press conference scheduled by the Commander of U.S. Border Patrol in South Texas was suddenly cancelled.

Border Patrol, Laredo sector, called the conference for 10 A.M., not saying what they were going to discuss.

The spokesperson said the order to cancel the conference came from the Secretary of Homeland Security.

That department oversees Border Patrol.

Local representatives are now directing questions to Homeland Security representatives in Washington.

We have not received a response from them after calling several times today.
