LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - The Rio Grande International Study Center is organizing the first-ever BioBlitz.

There will be scientists and birders from San Marcos, the RGV, and Laredo identifying and counting all species of living organisms at the bend of the Rio Grande, aka the Lost Lakes/gravel pits near downtown Laredo, just downstream of Laredo Community College. We will have mammologists, entymologists, herpetologists, ichthyologists, botanists and urban foresters present at this event.

The event will span a 24-hour time frame from Friday at 6 p.m. to Saturday at 6 p.m. Some scientists even plan to camp out at the bend on Friday night. All data will be made into an official record that we will then send to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, EPA, TCEQ, and City of Laredo.
