LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - You're never too young to discover the importance of reading.

Students at Centeno Elementary, along with the Laredo Public Library, hosted the "Read Across America" day.

First graders and kindergarten students participated in reading and singing songs during this event. The event coincides with the birthday of children's author Dr. Seuss.

"It's just to get our students excited about choosing books to take home on their own," said Centeno Elementary teacher Izella Garcia. "And to go to the Public Library and to check them out there as well."

Along with celebrating Dr. Seuss's birthday, the Read Across America event promotes reading, particularly for children and young adults from all across the country.
