LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - Laredo is a town that's always giving back to its veterans, and now the veterans get just a little bit more.

The Darden Company gives grants to local charities every year. This year, the recipient of the big $1,000 check was none other then Laredo non-profit Veterans Serving the Need.

"We're very grateful that Red Lobster is supporting the hunger issue," said Volunteers Serving the Need Founder and CEO Gigi Ramos. "Hunger never takes a holiday. Today is St. Patrick's Day, and we're very grateful to receive this check."

The money will be used to feed hungry veterans. Red Lobster General Manager Cayetano Rodriguez said he is honored to be a part of this.

"Any way we can help the local community is our goal," said Rodriguez. "We're very honored, very privileged to be able to award this to Gigi. She does a lot of great work out there."

Volunteers Serving the Need serves 500 clients per month.
