LAREDO, TEXAS (KGNS) -- A woman who says she knows Rio Bravo's "in and outs" at city hall wants to be the next mayor of that city.
Rosa Peguero announced Friday night her candidacy among supporters.
Peguero has been the long-time secretary for the City of Rio Bravo and she now says, knowing how the small city works, she can take it to the next level.
"We're tired of being a lost city on a map that no one ever knows we exist," said Peguero. "We have lost so many federal grants annually due to the fact that the city doesn't keep up with audits and I want to thrive and be the voice of the people we can approach Washington and Austin to better the community."
Peguero says she wants to continue the open door policy which started with Mayor Manuel Vela.
She's worked with his administration at secretary for several years.
