LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - Right now Zumba is extremely popular. Many people think it's a great way to exercise and have fun doing it.
That's exactly what they were doing at Bonnie Garcia Elementary. The school's P.T.C. put together a Zumbathon to promote physical activity among families. They invited parents to dance with their kids.
"We want the community to get involved here at school," said school Principal Cordelia Nava. "We think it's very important, especially now that we are celebrating heart month and we want everyone to get energized and get their little hearts pumping."
The Zumbathon was held during the students' P.E. class times. Besides promoting good health through exercise, the school did it as a release for the kids as they continue to study and take state mandated tests.
