Sheriff’s office deputies arrest man on drug charges near elementary school

A Laredo man was released from the Webb County Jail early Thursday following his arrest on drug charges Wednesday evening by Webb County Sheriff’s Deputies.

LAREDO, TX (Webb County) - A Laredo man was released from the Webb County Jail early Thursday following his arrest on drug charges Wednesday evening by Webb County Sheriff’s Deputies.

Working surveillance, deputies arrested Anthony Mark Mercado, 29, on the 1400 block of Market Street and charged him with possession of a controlled substance (cocaine) in a drug free zone and possession of a controlled substance (heroin) in a drug free zone. He was released from jail on a combined bond of $10,000.

He was arrested several blocks away from Heights Elementary School. Recovered at the scene were 1.5 grams of cocaine and 6.7 grams of heroin.

Sheriff Martin Cuellar reminds the community that all calls made to Laredo Crimestoppers are anonymous, and should a call lead to an arrest, the person may qualify for a monetary compensation. Laredo Crimestoppers may be reached at 956-727-TIPS (8477).
