LAREDO, TX (Webb County) – Webb County Sheriff’s Office deputies on Thursday evening intercepted a small dosage of heroin intended to make its way into the Webb County Jail, making this the second similar incident in as many days.

Laredo Police Department initially brought Mauricio Alvarado, 24, to the jail at 9:00 p.m. on criminal trespassing and theft charges. However, during intake procedures at the jail, correctional officers noticed a small plastic baggie in Alvarado’s belly button. Further inspection revealed the substance to be heroin.

Gonzalez was additionally charged with prohibited substance in a correctional facility, felony 3. He remains at the Webb County Jail without bond on all three charges.

“The interception of this drug shows how desperate criminals can get in order keep their habits going,” said Sheriff Martin. “But is also shows that our correctional officers are highly trained to find the drugs, no matter how creative the inmates try to get.”
