LAREDO, TX (KGNS) – Webb County Sheriff’s Office deputies during early hours Thursday arrested a local man who intended to smuggle a small amount of marijuana into the Webb County jail.

Department of Public Safety troopers initially brought Humberto Gonzalez, 19, to the jail shortly after midnight on possession of marijuana charges, but during intake procedures, correctional officers noticed a clear plastic baggie inside the inner sole of Gonzalez’ right shoe. Further inspection revealed the content of the bag to be marijuana.

Gonzalez was additionally charged with prohibited substance in a correctional facility, felony 3. He remains at the Webb County jail in lieu of a $750 bond for the possession of marijuana charge and without bond on the prohibited substance in a correctional facility charge.

Sheriff Martin Cuellar lauded the work of the officers, stating that Thursday’s confiscation is an indication of the highly trained personnel at the jail.
