LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - Webb County Sheriff’s Office deputies on Saturday afternoon intercepted a small amount of marijuana intended to make its way into the Webb County jail, landing a local man in jail on additional charges.
Gerardo Sanchez, 30, was initially arrested on several charges, including possession of a controlled substance and was sent to the Webb County Jail in lieu of an $8,000 bond. During intake procedures, deputies were then able to intercept the marijuana. Sanchez was additionally charged with possession of a controlled substance inside a correctional facility and an additional bond was set at $10,000.
“With the recent interception of contraband at the Webb County Jail, it only shows that our criminals are getting creative and bolder when trying to smuggle drugs into the facility,” said Sheriff Martin Cuellar. “But our message is loud and clear: We will go all the way to ensure the safety of our inmates and jail personnel.”
