LAREDO, TX (Webb County) – A regular traffic stop by a Webb County Sheriff Deputy Monday afternoon on southbound Interstate 35 led to the seizure of $10,490 in cash, sheriff’s officials said.

The deputy was patrolling Interstate 35 when he stopped the 2006 silver Nissan Armada for a traffic violation. As the deputy was proceeding with the search, he noticed the man had the money strapped to his body.

While no arrests have been made, the case is being investigated for money laundering.

Webb County Sheriff Martin Cuellar said Monday’s seizure is an ongoing effort to eradicate illicit money off the streets and, as a result, hinder drug-related activities.
