LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - TAMIU is taking part of a national competition and it's all for a good cause.

In partnership with the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center, the university will host its annual Cesar E. Chavez Blood Drive. The drive will continue until Thursday at the Killiam Library. Everybody is invited to donate.

Lisa Guzman of the Blood Center tells us about why these donation drives are important.

"We need blood on a daily basis," said Guzman. "The need is always there. Having functions such as this when we have a chance to collect as much blood as possible. So we look forward to this event every year."

TAMIU students hope to gather over 200 units of life-saving blood. TAMIU alumni and university employees can also participate in the challenge.

For more information, you can call TAMIU at 326-2001.
