LAREDO, TEXAS (KGNS) -- A democratic candidate is hoping to be the next Texas Railroad Commissioner and made a stop in town.
The Webb County Democratic Party hosted Steve Brown.
In a press conference, he outlined why he should be the next Railroad Commissioner for the state.
His big focus is dealing with a new type of oil and gas boom in Texas, an issue he says hits close to home in Laredo.
"I know that Laredo is ground zero with the oil and gas industry, particularly in the shale," said Steve Brown, "That means good things, challenges and I want to make sure those concerns are properly elevated at the railroad commission."
Brown says while oil and gas exploration brings good jobs and economic development. It can also mean safety issues pollution and reduced quality of life for some residents.
