Texas Senator teaches Laredo children about energy

LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - The oil and gas industries are booming, and one Texas senator thinks that it's never to early to learn about them.

Texas senator John Cornyn visits United High School in Laredo Friday to learn about a "first-of-its-kind" program to equip high school students with an education that prepares them for a career in the region’s oil and gas industry.

The program is developed by U.I.S.D. is in conjunction with local businesses who are members of the Eagle Ford Consortium. It's aimed at producing graduates with marketable skills to meet the high demand in the region for skilled employees in the energy sector.

Sen. Cornyn will visit a class and meet with students participating in the program, followed by a roundtable with local business leaders, elected officials, representatives from area colleges, and administrators and faculty from U.I.S.D.

The event starts at 2:30 pm at United High School.
