LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - A local music group reunites for a special occasion benefiting young musicians.
Laredo’s own doo-wop group, the Quarter Notes, presented Laredo Community College President Dr. Juan L. Maldonado a check for $5,061.75 on behalf of the group and Javier Santos of the Fernando A. Salinas Trust.
The Quarter Notes consists of Laredoans and Laredo Junior College alumni Rene Ornelas, John “Johnny” Orfila, Juan Garza-Gongora, and the late Rene Herrera.
The award-winning quartet played throughout the 1950s and 60s. When the group split up in the 1960s, Orfila and Garza-Gongora later teamed up with fellow Laredoans Jorge and Manuel Ramirez to create a new group to release one last album.
Pictured at the check presentation were, L-R, Jorge Ramirez, Johnny Orfila, Dr. Maldonado, and Juan Garza-Gongora.
