LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - The United Independent School District of Laredo has an awareness event for special needs students.

The United ISD Cherish Center was built to serve high school special needs students by way of two specialized programs. One is designed to help students with life after graduation through an alternative vocational/career curriculum.

This includes hands-on training in the areas of business media, commercial food service, horticulture, hotel hospitality and retail merchandising. A separate program for severely disabled students offers them, through specialized units, an alternative to homebound services or placement away from home.

Cherish Center students will take members of the Down Syndrome Association Support Group on a tour of the campus and will help create awareness of World Down Syndrome Day.
