There is more and more proof every day that you're never too young to be an athlete.

LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - Some future athletes are prepping early for the upcoming Special Olympics.

UISD Early Childhood Special Education students had the opportunity to compete in the district's Special Games for students in the district with special needs.

The students ranged from ages 3 to 7 years old, and competed in all types of physical activities. The age participation in the Special Olympic competition is 8 years of age.

"It's important for students to demonstrate their ability," said Area Director Maribel Santoya-Maciel. "Every child has an opportunity and should have an opportunity in our community to demonstrate their sports abilities."

The upcoming area Special Olympics Track and Field Competition will be April 29th until May 1st.
