George Altgelt says hes met with the City Attorney to review a draft of the petition adding he wants to make sure signatures submitted will meet the criteria.
LAREDO, TEXAS (KGNS) - The recall election will be triggered if the signatures are attained and then approved by Laredo City Secretary Gustavo Guevara.
Guevara will compare the list presented by petitioners to his own list of registered voters living in District 7.
Guevara is asking for the signatures by Thursday. He said that will give him until Friday to certify the signatures, then 72 hours to get the petition on the agenda for Monday's city council meeting.
"The city council will have to call an election to pose the question," said Guevara.
According to Guevara, Monday is the last day the council will have to put a recall on the ballot for November 4.
The yes-or-no question would ask voters to remove Vera from office.
If voters answer yes, an election to replace the Vera must take place within 120 days.
Vera would remain on the council until that time.
