US Consulate for Nuevo Laredo issues security warning

The warning posted on their website states that, since January, there has been an increase in abductions, kidnappings, and assaults reported in Nuevo Laredo.

The Consulate is encouraging travelers to keep a low profile when traveling there, as well as a heightened sense of awareness.

NUEVO LAREDO, MX (US Consulate General of Nuevo Laredo) - For those of you who travel into the Sister City, be aware that the US Consulate issued another security warning for Americans.

The warning posted on their website states that, since January, there has been an increase in abductions, kidnappings, and assaults reported in Nuevo Laredo.

It goes on to say that Tamaulipas has brought in more state police because of the rising crime. They're increasing the use of checkpoints on highways that connect Nuevo Laredo with Piedras Negras, Monterrey, and Reynosa.

The Consulate is encouraging travelers to keep a low profile when traveling there, as well as a heightened sense of awareness.

They also say their services for Americans are available 24 hours a day.
