"One Class at a Time" Program honors USMS teacher

LAREDO, TEXAS (KGNS) - United South Middle School's 7th grade Math teacher Karina Cienfuegos was all smiles when representatives from the Laredo Federal Credit Union (LFCU), KGNS –TV/ Telemundo and the CW Channel dropped by her classroom with great news.

Accompanied by Superintendent Roberto J. Santos and United South Middle School Principal Roylin Wilson, Cienfuegos was informed that she was selected as the “One Class At A Time” teacher for May 2014.

Ms. Cienfuegos was nominated for the honor by Assistant Principal Selina Gomez, who praised Cienfuegos as an innovative educator who motivates both students and fellow teachers.

“Ms. Cienfuegos has a caring heart and a special bond with our students. She uses technology and hands-on activites to make math fun and she teaches students that math is relevant to their everyday lives”, said Gomez.

For her efforts, Ms. Cienfuegos was awarded a $500.00 educational grant, courtesy of the Laredo Federal Credit Union. The funds will be used to obtain more learning tools for her classroom.
