LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - A local teacher receives recognition for his many accomplishments as an educator.
Digital Graphics teacher Amando Chapa, of United South High School, is this month's "One Class at a Time" winner.
Chapa was getting his students prepared for their state competitions, until we came in and surprised him with a $500 check, courtesy of the Laredo Federal Credit Union.
"Those $500 will go a long way," said Chapa. "We need inks for the computers, paper, and all sorts of things for the program."
Chapa not only received applause and recognition from his students, but from his peers, as well.
"This is not a surprise," said UISD Executive Director of High School Education David Canales. "Mr. Chapa has won numerous awards across our district. We're very proud of him. On behalf of Mr. Santos and the Board, and all the UISD family, we want to congratulate you."
Chapa has had many teaching jobs across the district, and is known to be a man that really wants to help his students succeed.
"To me, it's all about the students," said Chapa. "And I think if we make a big impact as educators, and if we get to one or two students, I think we've made our job."
Chapa is currently in his 15th year as an educator.
