LAREDO, TEXAS (KGNS) - A kick off event is held for a network that helps raise money for local organizations in town.

The United Way campaign kicked off Friday at McDonald's on Jacaman with members of the media, organizers and representatives from the city.

The first event they will be hosting is the Restaurant Week, where certain proceeds from restaurants in town will go into the United Way account to help non-profit organizations.

The event runs from September 1 - 6.

"We invite the folks out there, all of you understand through your families or many members that you know friends somebody has been touched by an agency in town at some point," said United Way President Miguel Conchas. "I mean some might have gone to the boys club, or were boy scouts...maybe your family had to use Ruth B. Cowell for a particular service, and so those are the services that help out that you need to reach out and support."

For more information on what restaurants will be part of Restaurant Week, visit the organization on Facebook under "United Way."
