The Webb County Commissioners did not make a vote to open the Laredo Rifle and Pistol Club back up, or let it remain closed.
The club said they have a new insurance plan ready to go, but they'll have to wait a little bit longer to open.
The county committee in charge of the range still has to meet with board members of the club to negotiate a new lease.
The committee consists of Commissioners Mike Montemayor, John Galo, County Engineer Luis Perez Garcia III and Assistant County Attorney Ray Rodriguez.
Once the lease is worked out, a survey of the land then has to be complete.
"The original footprint encompassed I believe a former landfill, which is approximately 130 acres. We realize that the footprint is now considerably smaller, about 80 acres. But we need a formal survey to be able to determine the actual 80 acres through the footprint."
The survey won't be done until after both the county and club agree on a rental rate.
The county was not able to tell me a time frame on when they expect this to be complete but they said it should be done, “soon.”
