The petition to remove City Council member Jorge Vera should be approved Friday to be passed as an agenda item for Monday's upcoming meeting.
LAREDO, TEXAS (KGNS) -- The petition to remove councilman Jorge Vera has the signatures but was it in time to be on the agenda for the next city council meeting?
"I have finished reviewing the signatures and they meet the required number and it will be on the agenda for a recall election," said Laredo City Secretary Gustavo Guevara.
Guevara saying the petition will be on the agenda.
In order for the petition to be approved, it had to be turned in Friday, August 15 and have 132 signatures from people who live in District 7.
The petition had 173 signatures, 19 of those signatures were rejected and 154 were approved.
Guevara explains why only 132 signatures were needed.
"The reason is because the city charter says in order to call a recall election of any elected official the number has to be 10% of the number of votes when that official was elected."
The city secretary had to verify the names by address and registration number.
Councilman Jorge Vera has not attended the past three city council meetings.
