LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - The WBCA Jalapeno Festival brought back all the fun elements everybody expected, and then some!
Three high school Mariachi groups went charro a charro Friday evening. Under the direction of Ruben Guadian, Martin High School's Mariachi Los Tigres del Sur won first place and received a $500 donation.
Phar Native Erika Noyola, a sophomore from Texas A&M University, was crowned in the Stripes Miss Jalapeno Contest and received $300 in cash. One of her duties with this new title was participating in the Stripes float in Saturday's Anheuser-Busch Washington's Day Parade.
Here are the results of the La Costena Jalapeno Eating Contest:
1st place: Luis Bruni, Jr. (135 jalapenos)
2nd place: Randy Harrison (132 jalapenos)
3rd place: Aniceto Mata (127 jalapenos)
The current record for the most jalapenos eaten in the contest was set by professional eater Patrick "Deep Dish" Bertoletti with 266 jalapenos in 15 minutes.
