LAREDO, TEXAS (KGNS) - Webb County is a week away from finalizing a new pay plan that will apply to all county employees.
The county wage and classification plan has been in the works since May. That's when the county started working with a contractor who evaluated positions in the county and compared them to how much was paid in similar-size counties.
The new plan will set criteria across the board for how much someone should get paid. It'll set wages according to an employees specific skills as well as their time in service with the county.
Webb County Administrative Services Director Cynthia Mares said department heads have been notified and the plan should start soon.
"October 1, that's it. Full and final, we move forward with the plan," said Mares.
As part of the plan, department heads got the right to make changes to the grade of their employees.
But as a whole, commissioners say the plan is intended to make the pay structure more consistent.
The new plan is expected to cost the county $2.1 million to implement. To start, all employees will see at least a slight raise in their wage.
